12 days and counting…

Posted: July 6, 2014 in Uncategorized

It’s Sunday morning, July 6 and we leave in 12 days and this is anything but an ordinary lead-up to our trips.

Caitlin is still super active with her Youth Musical Theatre Company. They’re performing West Side Story this year and Caitlin has been cast as one of the Jet Girls – she’s not doing as much speaking or singing as she has is past years but she’s doing a lot more dancing. She’s coming home exhausted and with all the rolling around on the floor and falling to the floor, she’s sporting a crop of very impressive bruises… But she’s having fun and it all comes to an end next Sunday so she’ll be good to go.

Marie is currently trying to fill three senior management positions (a manager, a senior manager and the director of the company). She also has to have all the bargaining proposals for the company ready to present before she leaves. And probably needs to make at least one trip to Vancouver before we leave. I’ll be doing a bunch of work for her to help her be able to leave but it’s looking very much like she’ll need to be available to work while we’re away and will have to check in periodically.

Normally at this time of year, I’m recharging the batteries by doing a whole lot of nothing. This year, we’re still picketing key sites in the district and I’ve been busy walking the picket line, making the rounds of the other lines and trying to help out wherever I’m needed. There doesn’t seem to be any end in sight for the teachers’ strike so this will probably continue up until the time we leave.

With all this going on, we’ve managed to pull most of our travel clothes and gear out of the basement and have dumped it in our spare room… And that’s about as far as we’ve gotten. But all our paperwork is in order (I think). The trip is planned. The tickets and rooms and transportation are all booked. So we should be fine. All we really need to do now is pack our bags, square the house away and make sure it’s ready for the people coming to look after the house and Ladybug (thanks Shawn, Keith & Deb!) and finalize our lists of the things we’d like to do while we’re over there… Piece of cake!
